Biographies

  • Ore Disu is the Director of the MOWAA Institute, MOWAA’s research and collections facility. With over 10 years of experience in cultural programming, research and partnerships, her career has centered on steering high impact and early-stage initiatives in Nigeria, India and Uganda. From 2016-2019, she served as Senior Research Partnerships Manager for UK’s Department for International Development in Nigeria. Prior to this, Ore was the founding executive director of Nsibidi Institute, a non-profit cultural think-tank in Lagos, Nigeria. She holds degrees in Architecture Master’s in urban development Practice from University College London.

  • Phillip Ihenacho serves as Executive Director of the MOWAA Trust, an independent non profit established to own and run the Museum of West African Art. He has worked extensively in finance focused on Africa as a co-founder of an investment banking business, Afrinvest (UK) Limited, and a principal investment business, Amaya Capital. More recently, Phillip has focused more on not-for-profit activities largely in nature conservation (The Nature Conservancy and Africa Nature Investors) and in arts and culture. Phillip is a graduate of Yale University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).

  • Aindrea Emelife is the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at MOWAA and the Nigeria Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. After her studies at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London, U.K., her research focuses on colonial histories, transnationalism, and representation.

  • Chika Okeke-Agulu, an artist, critic, and art historian, is Director of Africa World Initiative, and Robert Schirmer Professor of Art & Archaeology and African American Studies, Princeton University. He is co-editor of Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art, a member of board of trustees of Global Studies University, Sharjah, UAE, and Fellow of The British Academy.
