MOWAA is dedicated to raising the profile of West African art - works from antiquity through to the Modern and Contemporary.
Our collections will offer expansive sensory experiences and insights into the everyday life, power dynamics, spirituality, and cosmologies of West African communities – from ancient Nok settlements to medieval empires and contemporary art. We will build a collection through loans and acquisitions guided by rigorous research and ethics regarding their origin, care, and representation, both individually and collectively as part of West Africa’s complex heritage.
