Archive Fever II: Stewarding Art Archives in Practice
In April 2026, MOWAA held ‘Archive Fever II’, a four-day programme by MOWAA, supported by the Embassy of France in Nigeria, bringing together cultural practitioners, archivists, and institutions across Nigeria for a series of exchanges on archival stewardship, material conservation, digitisation and access.
With spokespeople from MOWAA, the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), the National Gallery of Art, Nigeria (NGA), and the G.A.S. Foundation, the workshops and forums created space for peer learning and collaboration, with discussions centred on a shared question: How do we build stronger systems of care for our cultural memory?
Based on the notion that preserving history is a shared responsibility, this year’s programme centred on dialogue and discussion around archival conservation and care, prompting attendees to reflect on where we are now, and where we might be if we all take part in safeguarding our collective history.
“Archive Fever II is based on the premise that archives are both a social responsibility and an active, living practice.” — Ore Disu, Director, MOWAA Institute
